Shepton Mallet Bowls Club
The Shepton Mallet Bowls and Tennis Club has a distinguished past and a very exciting future. The Club is being transformed to meet the demands of the 21st Century while maintaining that essential feel of a traditional Club. It is our centenary next year and we plan to be hosting national events. We have in place major funding bids to build new toilets and sufficient existing funds to upgrade our Clubhouse when plans finalised. The standard of our bowls green is respected throughout the County.
Our bowls teams play in the Wessex Mixed Friendly League and the Mid Somerset Mixed League , ladies in the Wild League and men in the Mid Somerset Men's League. We also participate in a number of friendly matches with old colleagues in our area of Somerset. The Club welcomes new members with or without previous bowling experience - check out the Development tab for our coaching programme.
The new outdoor bowls season starts this year on Saturday 14th April from 2:00 pm for registration. All current and prospective members whether they be players or social are encouraged to join us on this day. The outdoor bowls season lasts from April to September and members meet every Monday evening from 6 o'clock for casual bowling in adddition to our busy league fixtures.
Our Captains Chris Vaughan and Anne Neale are ready to welcome all comers or send us a message by clicking on the contact tab.
To Find Us
From the centre of Shepton Mallet head towards Frome. A quarter of a mile from the traffic lights turn right into Frithfield Walk, a well tarmaced lane opposite Frithfield Lane. Drive to the top to our car park.
We have a separate Tennis Section. Please follow this link
We also manage allotments which are being upgraded to an exceptional standard offering family and disability access. If interested contact the Club Secretary as usual and we will email back to you on a separate account.
Shepton Get Ur Skates On
Early in 2017 a group of members, with the support of the Club officers providing financial guidance and structural oversight developed a roller disco that now runs each Friday at the Leisure Centre usually attracting over 120 skaters. This has now been set up as an independent operation with its own management committee but retains strong links with the Club. The venture received significant start up grants from our Shepton Mallet Town Council and Sport England but is now on a day-to-day basis financially viable.
